Georgian PM pays tribute to Shovi disaster victims

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, alongside the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Revaz Sokhadze, visited the memorial to the victims of the Shovi landslide to mark the third anniversary of the tragedy that occurred on August 3, 2023.

The head of government paid tribute to the memory of the disaster victims and once again extended his deepest condolences to their families.

Together with representatives from the government, parliament, and local authorities, the Prime Minister attended a memorial service for the souls of the deceased, conducted by clergy at the monument erected in their honour.

“Three years have passed since the tragedy that shook our entire nation. For every single one of us, this was a profound tragedy. We must do everything to ensure that similar tragedies are averted in the future. To this end, targeted work on glacial processes has been carried out in partnership with a Swiss firm, yielding preliminary research findings. The state will do everything to ensure that such threats are prevented in the future. This was an immense tragedy for our country, above all for the families of those who lost their lives, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to them once again,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
