Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili held a meeting with Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on Wednesday.
The parties discussed the close partnership and years-long friendship between Lithuania and Georgia, the government’s press service reported.
Irakli Garibashvili informed Gabrielius Landsbergis about the dire situation in Georgia’s occupied territories and thanked him for firm support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Georgian and Lithuanian officials paid specific attention to Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration and Lithuania’s strong support on this path. According to the Head of Government, integration into the EU is the unwavering choice of the Georgian authorities and people, and Georgia is preparing to apply for EU membership in 2024. The Georgian government appreciated Lithuania’s strong support for Georgia on the path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, Garibashvili added.
The conversation also touched on the two countries’ close cooperation in many directions, underlining the importance of further deepening economic relations, especially toward overcoming the global crisis arising from COVID-19.
PM expressed gratitude to Lithuania for providing Georgia with humanitarian assistance in the fight against coronavirus. He pointed out the decisive importance of the friendly country’s help in securing access to vaccines saying that vaccination and joint efforts invested by states are crucial for overcoming the pandemic.
