Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Chairman of the Lower House of Ireland. The parties discussed the partnership between Georgia and Ireland, and reviewed prospects of future cooperation.

According to the government’s press office, the conversation focused on the importance of high-level meetings in the context of further spurring the ongoing cooperation. The dynamic parliamentary relations between the two countries were pointed out.

Attention was paid to the enormous trade and economic potential between the countries which must be tapped into in full. The conversation touched on large Irish investments and Georgia’s favorable business climate.

Georgia’s success toward European integration was emphasized at the meeting, and the hope was expressed that the country’s progress will be duly appreciated. According to the Prime Minister, Ireland’s active political and practical support acquires a special meaning as Georgia is anticipating the candidate status. It was noted that the Government is inclusively, consistently, and transparently implementing the 12 priorities, and the country remains the EU’s reliable partner in the region.

The Head of Government thanked Ireland for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and Ireland’s considerable contribution to the EU Monitoring Mission was also underscored. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Georgian Government’s commitment to the policy of peaceful conflict resolution.

The conversation also covered the challenges and security matters in the region.
