Georgian PM: Anyone acting against Georgia’s national interests will face justice; the state is stronger today than ever before
“Utterly fabricated content is being produced on social media; fictitious individuals who do not exist under such names, surnames, or professions are claiming that a hostile environment has supposedly been created in Georgia for Russian tourists,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to the Head of Government, the sole purpose of this is sabotage against their own country.
“This in itself is extremely telling. Here, too, we see direct sabotage, with social media being deployed very actively for this purpose. This coordination is being facilitated from a platform based in a foreign country, and local foreign aids on the ground pick it up and reinforce the campaign. Utterly fabricated content is being generated on social media; non-existent individuals, people who do not exist with such names, surnames, or professions, are asserting that a hostile environment has been created in Georgia for Russian tourists. This serves a single objective: sabotage against one’s own country. Naturally, our doors are open to everyone, to any tourist. This must be stated very plainly. We will do everything possible to ensure a welcoming environment for all tourists in Georgia. This is our culture, this is our tradition, and this is what aligns with our country’s economic interests,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Head of Government also responded to a question regarding the potential outcome of the State Security Service’s investigation.
“Of course, this is crucial. First and foremost, everyone must know that if anyone conducts sabotage against Georgia, justice will catch up with them. Everyone ought to understand this very clearly. In this regard, launching this case and commencing the investigation is, naturally, very important, and it is even more vital that this investigation is carried through to its conclusion.
I will repeat once more: anyone engaged in sabotage against their own country, anyone who sets themselves against Georgia’s national interests, must know that justice will knock on their door. This will unequivocally be the case, as the state is now stronger than ever before. Consequently, we will confront every attempt to oppose Georgia’s national interests,” Irakli Kobakhidze declared.
