Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has presented his annual report on the government program implementation amid the noise.
At the very beginning, United National Movement (UNM)’s Khatia Dekanoidze interrupted the PM while alluding to the European Commission’s recommendation to greenlight Georgia’s European Perspective.
Lelo member Salome Samadashvili also broke in as Garibashvili was hinting at UNM and jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili “trying to hinder” Georgia from getting the EU candidate status. The PM said Samadashvili was personally visiting Brussels, “asking for Georgia be rebuffed the status.” He called her “the traitor of the country.” Samadashvili responded to the PM saying he was “lying.”
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili was calling for the opposition MPs to adhere to the rules. The PM also urged the MPs to calm down.
Amid the opposition’s outcry, the PM continued speech over EC’s opinion, dubbing it ‘historic.’ He also remarked on “different stances” over Georgia’s geopolitical spot.
“We have heard the assessment that Georgia’s geographical location and situation are different and that Ukraine should be given status as facing the war,” said the Prime Minister.
Referring to the opposition, the PM mentioned David Arakhamia, the majority leader of Ukraine’s Parliament, saying he is “one of the main initiators, insisted on Georgia be rejected candidate status and who is a friend of our opponents.”
“Europe practically faced an ultimatum that if Georgia received the candidate status, they [Ukraine] would be very disappointed,” the PM asserted.
The Head of the government went on claiming the opposition today is “hung up” on de-oligarchy, [EC’s one of the conditions for Georgia].
In his address, the PM named “real oligarchs” – Davit Kezerashvili [wanted ex-Defence Minister], Mamuka Khazaradze [opposition Lelo leader], and Mikheil Saakashvili [jailed ex-President of Georgia], among them.
“Today, Kezerashvili is a real oligarch who finances all three TV stations -Mtavari TV, Formula and TV Pirveli – with stolen, looted money.
Saakashvili and his family are the main oligarchs. His uncle is the oligarch who coached the President, and Saakashvili’s mother is the oligarch.
Mamuka Khazaradze, who had a genuine desire and intention to become an oligarch-businessman to run politics, Parliament, government, etc,” Garibashvili stated.
Following the PM’s address, the Georgian Parliament members kicked off the debates.
