The permanent delegation of the Parliament of Georgia, led by MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, is participating in the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

According to the parliament’s press office, the session, which opened in Vilnius on May 30 and runs through to June 1, is also attended by MP Levan Makhashvili, a member of the permanent delegation and Chairman of the Committee on European Integration.

“In the course of the session, discussions addressed hybrid and conventional threats emanating from Russia, the military aggression against Ukraine and its implications for the Alliance, as well as the strengthening of resilience among NATO member and partner states. Particular attention was given to the use of modern technologies on the battlefield. Members of parliament, together with representatives from the military and academic spheres, noted during the debate that more decisive steps are required to reinforce Euro-Atlantic defence — most notably, increases in defence budgets, an extension of compulsory military service, and the modernisation of armaments.

At the plenary sitting of the session, delegates voted on the declaration: A Quantum Leap in Deterrence and Defence: A Parliamentary Agenda for a Stronger NATO,” the statement reads.
