Georgian Parliament to open autumn session on September 2

The Georgian Parliament will open its autumn session tomorrow, September 2.

According to parliamentary regulations, the autumn session begins on the first Tuesday of September and concludes on the third Friday of December.

The opening week is set to be a busy one. Today, the Committee on Procedural Issues will review the resignation of Anri Okhanashvili from the post of Head of the State Security Service. The matter will then be submitted to the plenary session.

Parliament is also expected to elect a new Head of the State Security Service. The ruling majority has nominated Mamuka Mdinaradze for the position, whose appointment requires the backing of at least 76 MPs. Mdinaradze is scheduled to be heard by the Defense and Security Committee.

Another key issue on the agenda is the possible termination of mandates of MPs from the opposition party Gakharia for Georgia. The Procedural Issues Committee will deliberate on the matter today before it proceeds to the plenary session for a vote.
