Georgian parliament delegation participates in EU Enlargement Conference in Tirana

A Georgian Parliament delegation participated in an interparliamentary conference in Tirana organized by the Albanian Parliament, bringing together representatives of parliamentary European affairs committees from EU member and candidate countries.

The conference, titled “EU Enlargement: A Strategic Agenda for Europe’s Future,” focused on the future of EU enlargement, the role of parliaments in the European integration process, and the importance of enlargement in strengthening peace and stability.

Speaking at the conference, Tornike Paghava, a member of the Georgian delegation and Deputy Chair of the European Integration Committee, emphasized the importance of European unity.

According to Paghava, EU enlargement is not merely a technical and institutional process but also an important instrument for strengthening peace and stability.

He said Georgia’s integration into the EU is a historic choice and reflects the country’s firm commitment to a common European future. He also highlighted the importance of fulfilling Georgia’s commitments and stressed the need to maintain dialogue between Georgia and the EU.

“Under the existing challenges, relations need more dialogue, not isolation,” Paghava said.

Giorgi Chakvetadze, a member of the European Integration Committee and First Deputy Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, also addressed the conference.

He emphasized the role of parliaments and the importance of parliamentary dialogue in the EU integration process.

According to Chakvetadze, political differences and existing challenges should not become grounds for ending dialogue, while restoring trust and resuming full-fledged dialogue is in the common interest.

Chakvetadze also said European integration remains Georgia’s strategic and constitutional objective. He added that Georgia is ready to contribute to strengthening regional security, stability and resilience, as well as developing connectivity across the wider Black Sea region.

Around 30 parliamentary delegations from EU member and candidate countries, along with senior representatives of EU institutions and the Albanian government, participated in the conference.
