Georgian Orthodox Church is against permission for production of cannabis

The permit for production of cannabis is actually legalization of drug trafficking, which will bring the serious consequences to the country – it is said in the protocol of the Synod June 21 meeting, issued by the Georgian Patriarch’s Office.

According to the protocol Patriarch of All Georgia and the Synod discussed the severe impacts of drug addiction and drug trafficking.

According to the Georgian Patriarchate, the Georgian Orthodox Church has never supported putting drug addicts in a prison, but it believes that the decision of the Constitutional Court of Georgia related to liberalization of drug offenses is a great threat and gives a stimulus to a wide distribution and consumption of drugs.

“As it is known, in the Constitutional Court, is discussing a lawsuit on the cancellation of administrative penalty for possession of drugs, marijuana (cannabis), up to 70 grams, which in fact means the legalization of these drugs. This logically puts the issue of finding the legal paths for obtaining these drugs and this will eventually create the grounds for legal cultivation of marijuana (cannabis) in Georgia, which is totally unacceptable.
