Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Easter – the central religious holiday in the Christian liturgical year.
Festive liturgies on this occasion were held at all active churches across Georgia last night. The divine church service began at St. Trinity temple at 11 PM and was conducted by Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.
The Easter Liturgy was attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili, representatives of legislative government as well as the diplomatic corps and the Tbilisi City Mayor Kakha Kaladze.
The Easter put an end to a 49-day Great Lent. According to Christian scripture, Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion on Easter Sunday. A door of paradise was opened for humans with the Christ’s Resurrection.
