The Government of Georgia will award 1 million GEL to each Olympic champion, and 500,000 GEL and 250,000 GEL to silver and bronze medallists, respectively, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated in his speech at today’s ceremony of seeing off Georgian Olympians on their way to participation in the upcoming Olympic Games.

The Head of Government emphasized that the team features many Olympic champions, runners-up, and third-place holders, world champions and medallists, European champions and runners-up, a very promising fact.

Irakli Kobakhidze wished success to the athletes, coaches, and each member of the Olympic team ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games.

“Over the next few weeks, the Olympic Games will be in the spotlight of our entire society. You are aware of the interest toward Georgian sports, especially in the recent period. And, of course, the Olympic Games will be no exception in this regard. Participation in the Olympic Games is in itself a major success and honor, and I want to congratulate all of you on having been honored in this way. However, we should also bear in mind that the traditional Olympic creed: ‘The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part’ has always had just a symbolic meaning for our country, our citizens, Georgians. What matters to us is to achieve as many successes as possible at the Olympic Games, and I am confident that the Paris Olympic Games will prove to be absolutely exceptional for our team,” the Prime Minister said.

The Head of Government drew attention to the special achievements of Georgian sports and the recent successes in team sports.
