Georgian Olympic Champions Lasha Talakhadze and Geno Petriashvili and also silver medalist Givi Macharashvili returned to Georgia after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Family members and friends greeted Georgian athletes at the Tbilisi International Airport and congratulated them on their success.
Georgian weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze (+102 kg) became a three-time Olympic Champion at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Talakhadze earned gold by lifting 210 and 215 kg in snatch and 247 and 255 kg in clean and jerk, in total 470 kg.
“I congratulate our fellows on this big success. You would agree that we returned to Georgia with good results,” said Talakhadze and thanked his coach, supporters and family.
Geno Petriashvili, 30, heavyweight freestyle wrestler (125 kg) also won the title of Olympic Champion at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He defeated Amir Hossein Zare, an Iranian freestyle wrestler, with a score of 10:9 and secured the fifth medal for Georgia.
“Georgians are very cool people. We prove it every time. I want to congratulate the Georgian people on these victories. We always do our best to carry our country’s flag with dignity,” Petriashvili remarked.
Georgian freestyle wrestler Givi Macharashvili (97 kg) secured a silver medal at the Olympics in Paris after losing in the final to Bahrain’s Akhmed Tazhudinov.
“I congratulate the entire Georgia, the Georgia people. A small country securing so many medals is a great thing,” he said.
Georgia won seven medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics: Three gold, three silver and one bronze.
According to Eurosport, Georgia ranked seventh with number of gold medals per capita.
The 2024 Paris Olympics ran from July 26 to August 11. Los Angeles will host the next Olympics in 2028.
