Georgian military para-athletes return from U.S. with 34 medals
The Georgian Ministry of Defence’s Wounded and Injured Military Team has returned victorious from the Air Force and Marine Corps Games held in Texas, USA.
The Georgian military para-athletes achieved impressive results, securing 18 gold, 11 silver, and five bronze medals.
Upon their arrival at Tbilisi International Airport, they were welcomed by First Deputy Minister of Defence Paata Patiashvili, Deputy Commander of the Defence Forces Brigadier General Irakli Chichinadze, and Head of the Department of Social Issues and Psychological Support Irakli Ujmajuridze. They congratulated the athletes on their remarkable achievements and expressed gratitude for their successful participation.
The Air Force and Marine Corps Games took place at the Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. This marks the third time the Ministry of Defence of Georgia’s wounded and injured servicemen have participated in the competition. The Georgian military para-athletes competed in various individual and team sports, including archery, cycling, rowing, athletics (shot put and discus), weightlifting, swimming, running, rifle and pistol shooting, sitting basketball, and sitting volleyball.
The primary objective of the para-sports event is to facilitate the sharing of experiences among wounded and injured servicemen, enhance self-confidence and self-esteem, and foster communication with injured military from other nations, thereby aiding their rehabilitation and resocialization.
