The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the 62nd round of the Geneva International Discussions, held on November 5-6, 2024, where First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia led the Georgian delegation.
The discussions, co-chaired by the European Union, United Nations, and OSCE, included representatives from Georgia, the Russian Federation, and the United States.
According to the Ministry, the Georgian delegation emphasized the need to enforce the August 12, 2008 ceasefire agreement, facilitated by the EU, and prioritize the safe return of internally displaced persons and refugees from the occupied territories—key agenda items in the Geneva discussions.
The delegation also highlighted the challenging security, humanitarian, and human rights conditions in the occupied regions and denounced the occupation regimes’ destructive actions.
“Regrettably, representatives of the occupation regime, as usual, left the table as soon as discussions began on the critical issue of internally displaced persons and refugees returning to their homes,” the Ministry stated.
The Geneva International Discussions, grounded in the 2008 ceasefire agreement, focus on implementing the ceasefire, ensuring the safe return of displaced persons, and addressing the security and humanitarian issues stemming from the Russian occupation.
