Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri on Wednesday held a meeting with his German colleague Nancy Faeser, discussing law enforcement cooperation and future ties.
According to the MIA’s press office, Gomelauri highlighted the importance of fruitful cooperation with German law enforcement agencies and expressed his gratitude for German’s continuous support.
The two emphasized the steps taken in the battle against organized crime and illegal immigration, as well as the function of police attachés in this area.
Gomelauri expressed the country’s readiness to send Georgian police officers to the pertinent divisions of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community of Germany, explaining that this will not only support the measures of controlling illegal immigration but also help in the fight against organized crime.
In her remark, Faeser stated that Georgia had successfully implemented the readmission agreement with the EU.
“Georgia’s steps and reforms in response to the visa-free regime challenges were also positively evaluated. The German side indicated its desire to establish bilateral working groups with the goal of expanding the chances for Georgian residents with varied qualifications to legally work in Germany,” reads the statement.
