Georgian government plans to invest in 50 new locomotives, 1,500 wagons, and modern railway systems to double capacity
“Georgia Railways has outlined a development action plan for 2026–2028, under which we will acquire fifty new locomotives and 1,500 new wagons. We will also implement modern railway systems that will streamline operational processes and, most importantly, double the capacity of Georgian Railways,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a government meeting.
According to him, the annual passenger transport figure is set to rise from two million to five million.
“We plan to purchase ten new passenger trains. As a result, all mainline routes will be operated by new trains, making passenger travel significantly more comfortable and faster, for both our citizens and visitors to the country. The annual passenger volume is expected to increase from two million to five million,” the Prime Minister added.
