Georgian Foreign Minister, Ilia Darchiashvili held a meeting with the Irish Minister of State for European Affairs, Peter Burke to discuss the current agenda of Georgia’s accession to the European Union and the importance of Ireland’s support in this process.

According to the Georgian MFA, Darchiashvili presented Burke with comprehensive information about the progress that Georgia has made in terms of fulfilling the European Commission’s 12 recommendations and noted that the Georgian government is firmly pursuing the agenda of reforms necessary for joining the European Union. The sides emphasized the strategic importance of the decision to grant Georgia a candidate status.

“The sides noted the importance of the support of the EU member states, including of Ireland, in this process. For his part, the Minister of State of Ireland once again confirmed his support for Georgia’s integration into the European Union.

Discussions focused on the strong and dynamic partnership between Georgia and the European Union and the importance of Georgia as a strong partner for the European Union. Talking points included the security challenges facing the region and the special role of the European Union in ensuring peace and security in the region.

The sides highlighted the activities of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia. Ilia Darchiashvili thanked the Irish side for their active involvement in the Mission,” reads the statement.
