Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine form like-minded countries' group aiming to join EU, FM Darchiashvili says

“Georgia and Moldova are united by friendly relations, which relies on close contacts between peoples, common goals and aspirations,” Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili said during a joint press point with his Moldovan colleague Nicu Popescu.

FM Darchiashvili went on to say that “our years-long friendship has led to a very fruitful and successful partnership when it comes to European integration.”

“EU membership is a civilizational choice that unites Georgia and Moldova. Along with Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova form a group of like-minded countries known as the Associated Trio. The goal of joining the European Union unites these countries,” he continued.

“Georgia has been actively engaging in discourse and sharing its experience on matters pertaining to the EU over the years. We agreed to strengthen positive dynamics and mutually support our efforts towards EU membership. The security risks in light of Russia’s ruthless aggression against Ukraine were thoroughly discussed. I’d like to take this chance to reiterate our commitment to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and our full support for them,” Darchiashvili stated.

The duo also focused on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Moldova, marked this year.
