“Georgia values its relationship with the European Union, but the EU’s recent approaches toward Georgia are unacceptable,” Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said.

According to the minister, the European Union’s current political direction is harming not only relations with Georgia but also Europe’s own interests and reputation.

“We have repeatedly spoken about the processes taking place within EU structures and about positions that are often at odds with Europe’s own interests. Of course, Georgia is interested in relations with the European Union, and we value the partnership that has developed over the years. However, the approaches that the EU bureaucracy has recently demonstrated toward Georgia are unacceptable. These are the consequences of the wrong policies we are witnessing today.

Double standards and incorrect political decisions primarily damage Europe’s reputation. And when this is spoken about openly today, it is not only Georgia and its government raising concerns—others also clearly see that the wrong political direction in which EU policy is being implemented is harming Europe and its interests,” Botchorishvili stated.
