Georgian Director Levan Koghuashvili’s film wins three awards at Tribeka Film Festival
Brighton 4th by Georgian film director Levan Koghuashvili with the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) co-production won three awards at the 20th-anniversary edition of the internationally renowned Tribeca Film Festival in New York, the festival’s website reported.
Koghuashvili told GPB’s Akhali Dghe Program (New Day) that Brighton 4th received awards in the nominations of the best film, best actor (Levan Tediashvili) and best scenario.
“We won best prizes and will bring them to Georgia. I am glad, and I congratulate the Georgian film society since I am a part of this society. I believe that my success is everyone’s success,” Levan Koghuashvili told GPB.
According to Koghuashvili, the film also received an award from Netflix that will contribute to its distribution.
Brighton 4th tells about a Georgian wrestler living in emigration. Twice Olympic Champion Levan Tediashvili plays the main character in the film. Koguashvili builds his script around the Georgian wrestler embarking on a mission to rescue his son from debt incurred in gambling in Brooklyn.
Brighton 4th was the last role for Kakhi Kavsadze, a Georgian actor who died on April 27. Brighton 4th received the Jury Prize and the ARP Selection Award at Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film Lab during its production in 2019, which added to the support lent to it by Georgian and Bulgarian national film centres. The film is the co-production of Bulgaria, Georgia, Monaco, Russia and the United States.
