Levan Machabeli, a Georgian citizen who was illegally detained by the Russian occupation forces on March 26, has been released and brought to the territory controlled by the central government, the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) reported late on August 17.
According to the agency, a “hotline” and other mechanisms were actively used to request his immediate release. The issue was regularly discussed in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) format, and the information was continuously provided to the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions and international partners.
“The central government continues to work actively to release other illegally detained citizens of Georgia, both in the direction of occupied Tskhinvali and occupied Abkhazia. Full responsibility for the destructive actions carried out in the occupied regions of Georgia and along the occupation line rests with the occupation power,” reads the SSG statement.
