Georgian Border Police tactical team joins NATO maritime security operation Sea Guardian in Greece

A Law Enforcement Tactical Team from the Coast Guard Department of the Georgian Border Police under the Ministry of Internal Affairs has taken part for the fifth time in NATO’s maritime security Operation Sea Guardian, held in the Hellenic Republic.

“As part of the operation, 12 members of the Georgian Coast Guard Boarding Team were embarked aboard the Hellenic Navy frigate HS Nikiforos Fokas (F 466). Alongside Greek Special Forces personnel, the Coast Guard representatives participated in joint training exercises covering Close Quarters Battle (CQB) and practical tactical live-fire training. In addition, search and rescue and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operations were carried out in coordination with the frigate’s crew.

NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian represents the Alliance’s sole standing maritime security operation currently active. Its primary tasks encompass counter-terrorism in the maritime domain, safeguarding freedom of navigation, building and strengthening maritime security capacity, and enhancing maritime situational awareness across the area of operations. Furthermore, the operation provides for information gathering and sharing, as well as fostering co-operation among allied and partner nations,” the Border Police statement read.
