Eurostat reports decline in Georgian asylum applications to EU in 2024
As per recent data published by Eurostat, the European Union has witnessed a marked decrease in asylum applications from Georgian citizens during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
This downward trend is evident across nearly all EU member states, with Germany—previously the primary destination for Georgian asylum seekers—experiencing the most substantial reduction.
In Germany, the number of Georgian citizens seeking asylum plummeted from 5,155 in the first half of 2023 to just 1,395 in the corresponding period of 2024, representing a dramatic decline.
This pattern of decrease in asylum applications from Georgian nationals is mirrored in other major EU countries, including France, Spain, Italy, and Greece.
