Georgian airports see record number of passengers, Deputy Minister says

Passenger flow at Georgia’s international airports has increased significantly.

In July, Tbilisi Airport served 519,275 passengers, a 29% increase from last year, while Batumi Airport saw a 48% rise in passengers. Kutaisi International Airport also hit a historical high, serving up to one million passengers in the first seven months of 2024.

Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili attributed the rise to increased flight frequencies and new routes from Europe and the Gulf countries.

“Kutaisi Airport now operates flights to 30 European destinations, enhancing the country’s tourism industry,” the Deputy Minister noted.

According to her, the government is negotiating with partner airlines to introduce new carriers and increase flight frequencies. Kvrivishvili praised the summer tourism sector’s success, noting a historical maximum in tourism income of $1.9 billion for the first two quarters of 2024.
