Georgia will host World Tourism Day 2024 on September 27 for the first time, the UN World Tourism Organizaton (WTO) announced on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
The UNWTO said the main message of this year event was “peace”.
“Pave the way for a peaceful tomorrow through the journeys we take today. For World Tourism Day 2024, let’s reflect on the role of tourism as an agent of peace. In Georgia, on September 27, we can turn tourism into a force for conflict resolution and global harmony by embracing cultural exchange, sustainable tourism, and dialogue”, it said.
The event will bring together high-level visitors from across the world, with officials from ministries of tourism, representatives of international organisations and field specialists visiting the country.
The decision for Georgia to host the day was unanimously approved by 38 members of the European Commission of the WTO in the spring of 2023.
World Tourism Day has been held on 27 September each year since 1980. The date marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970.
