Georgia terminates use of Plaquenil to treat COVID-19 patients

Georgia has terminated the use of hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) for treating COVID-19 patients over safety concerns raised by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Ministry of Health of Georgia (MOH) said the WHO has removed hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) from a list of drugs to be tested during the Solidarity trial which aimed to find an effective treatment for COVID-19.

According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Tamar Gabunia, since Georgia works with the same design as the World Health Organization and follows its recommendations, Plaquenil is temporarily removed from the medical guidelines.
