Georgia signs agreement with EUROCONTROL to implement airspace management system

At the initiative and through the international coordination of the Civil Aviation Agency, Georgia is set to implement LARA, the Local and Sub-Regional Airspace Management Support System developed by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). This was announced in an official statement released by the Civil Aviation Agency.

According to the agency, the agreement was signed by Colonel Sergo Ninua, Commander of the Aviation and Air Defence Command of the Georgian Defence Forces, and Gocha Mezvrishvili, Director General of the air navigation service provider Sakaeronavigatsia Ltd.

“At a meeting held at the Civil Aviation Agency, the parties discussed the practical steps for implementing the system, as well as ongoing work within the scope of the Permanent Civil-Military Airspace Committee. It was noted that the introduction of the LARA system will help optimise Georgia’s airspace management processes and significantly improve coordination between the civil and military sectors.

LARA is a software solution designed by EUROCONTROL to automate airspace management processes and effectively implement the Flexible Use of Airspace (FUA) concept. The system will facilitate the efficient allocation and management of airspace for both civil and military needs. Furthermore, it will enable the real-time exchange of airspace status information with EUROCONTROL, which is essential for effective airspace planning and utilisation. The project is being carried out under EUROCONTROL’s support programme.

As the chairing body of the Permanent Civil-Military Airspace Committee, the Civil Aviation Agency continues to introduce and develop the concept of flexible airspace use at strategic, pre-tactical, and tactical levels,” the statement from the Civil Aviation Agency read.
