Georgia sets new standards for dental service to enhance safety

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday discussed the project of establishing new standards for dental service providers.

The Health Ministry’s initiative aims to enhance regulations for commencing and operating dental activities, prioritizing patient safety and adherence to modern standards.

The changes include more detailed criteria for infection prevention, control, sterilization-disinfection, and medical waste management tailored for dental institutions.

As part of these changes, dental institutions will have to designate a person responsible for infection control. Moreover, dental institutions will be required to ensure prophylactic immunization of employees against hepatitis B and conduct screening for hepatitis C every six months.

These requirements will become mandatory for existing dental clinics starting January 2024. New institutions can commence their activities only if they meet these updated standards.
