Georgia secures USD 250 million ADB loan agreement to construct Tbilisi Bypass Highway

Georgia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a loan agreement providing USD 250 million in funding for the construction of the Tbilisi bypass highway, the Ministry of Finance has reported.

Georgian Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili and Country Director for the ADB’s Georgia Resident Mission, Lesley Bearman Lahm, signed the document.

The Ministry stated that the project involves building a new 18.9-kilometre, four-lane dual carriageway along the Tbilisi bypass highway. Specifically, the financing will fund two key segments: Lot 4 (Tbilisi Airport–Lochini) and Lot 5 (Lochini–Rustavi).

“This project is vital for the development of the nation’s transport network. The new highway will ease traffic congestion in the capital, enhance the safety of transit flows, and increase capacity along the country’s key transport corridors,” the statement reads.

The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze, Head of the Roads Department Levan Darakhvelidze, and representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Infrastructure, and the Asian Development Bank. The Ministry of Infrastructure, through the Roads Department, will execute the project.
