Georgia proud to be highest-ranked country in budget transparency, Finance Minister says

Georgia is proud of the progress made in terms of budget transparency, said the Minister of Finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, at the presentation of the Open Budget Survey 2021 organized by the International Budget Partnership on Tuesday.

According to the Survey, Georgia is the highest-ranked country in budget transparency.

“In 2020, as pandemic-strained governments struggled to operate effectively, Georgia led the world in budget transparency practices, scoring 87 out of 100 in OBS 2021. This is an increase of six points from OBS 2019, reflecting the Ministry of Finance’s work to continue publishing timely and comprehensive budget documents” reads the survey by International Budget Partnership.

Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili thanked the organization for recognizing the progress made by Georgia.

“Georgia is proud of the progress made in terms of budget transparency. According to the latest results, Georgia took first place among 120 countries. The survey results show significant improvements, including over the previous year,” Finance Minister said.

In the last decade, the Minister said, Georgia has implemented fundamental reforms, including in the management of state-owned enterprises, fiscal risk management, public sector capital management, as well as in the development of local economies.
