Georgia participates in UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
Georgian Deputy Justice Minister Giorgi Dgebuadze, together with a delegation from the Ministry of Justice, participated in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
According to the Ministry of Justice’s Press Service, speaking at the congress, Dgebuadze highlighted reforms implemented in Georgia in the areas of crime prevention and the rehabilitation and resocialization of convicted persons, including diversion and mediation programs and initiatives aimed at the rehabilitation and support of juveniles.
The Deputy Justice Minister also participated in a session dedicated to strengthening international cooperation in criminal matters. He emphasized the importance of mutual legal assistance, extradition and the transfer of convicted persons to serve the remainder of their sentences, as well as the need for close cooperation among countries to effectively combat transnational crime.
“Alongside the congress, the Georgian delegation held bilateral meetings with delegations from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Italy and Japan, as well as with representatives of the International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences (SII), a participant in the UN Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network (PNI), with the aim of deepening cooperation,” the Ministry of Justice said.
The Georgian delegation also included Giorgi Lomtadze, Head of the Ministry’s Analytical Department; Giorgi Sajaya, Head of the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Execution of Non-Custodial Sentences and Probation; and Iason Nachkebia, Head of the Agency’s Analytical Department.
