Georgians mark the 900th anniversary of the Didgori Battle fought between the armies of the Kingdom of Georgia and the Great Seljuq Empire in Didgori, 40 km west of Tbilisi, on August 12, 1121.
On this occasion, Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili came with an initiative to award special medals to Georgian soldiers. “For our people, Didgori’s “mighty wonder” has become a symbol of the struggle for freedom, unity, devotion to the homeland. Even today, in the face of new challenges, it is a living example of the Battle of Didgori that teaches us that we can achieve all goals together. I congratulate you on this day and wish unity, peace and development to our country,” Irakli Gharibashvili wrote on the social network.
Didgoroba events this year are planned following the Covid-related regulations. It will be a televised project broadcasted live at 8 pm local time. Director Basa Potskhishvili composed new music and staged choreography.
“Didgori is the unity symbol and the concept of this year’s event is victory and united Georgia,” said the organizer Tata Svanidze.
