Georgia launches Visegrad Partnership Project on geological hazard management

Georgia’s National Environment Agency has signed a partnership agreement for the project, “Strengthening Cooperation Between the Visegrad Countries and Georgia in the Field of Geological Hazards in Mountainous Regions,” the agency announced.

According to the agency, the project is being implemented with the support of the International Visegrad Fund and aims to strengthen international cooperation in geological hazard management, promote the exchange of expertise, and enhance professional capacity.

As part of the project, representatives of geological institutions from the Visegrad countries are on a 10-day working visit to Georgia. The opening meeting was held at the National Environment Agency, where participating organizations presented their activities and ongoing projects.

The program also includes field visits. Georgian and international experts have visited the municipalities of Chiatura, Tkibuli, and Kharagauli in western Georgia, where they examined landslide-prone areas and exchanged experience on geological hazard assessment and monitoring.

A visit to the Tusheti region is also planned, where participants will explore practical approaches to managing geological hazards in mountainous areas.

Alongside Georgia’s National Environment Agency, partner organizations in the field of geology from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland are participating in the project.

According to the agency, the international partnership will support the introduction of modern approaches to geological hazard assessment and management in Georgia, facilitate the exchange of expertise among institutions, and strengthen professional cooperation.
