Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday said the visit of his Hungarian colleague Viktor Orbán reaffirmed the longstanding partnership and friendship between Georgia and Hungary.

Deeming it as a historic day in Georgian-Hungarian relations, Garibashvili said, “This type of cooperation, friendship, and unity between our nations is very important for the well-being of our countries and people.”

“I am confident that today’s meetings will yield results and the high-level political relations between our countries will translate into concrete success,” stated the Georgian PM during a meeting of the Georgia-Hungary joint intergovernmental commission.

In his remark, Orbán stressed Hungary would fully support Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations “and we demand a fair, merit-based treatment to the Georgian government!.”

“Europe should connect with the Caucasus, which is a historical task. The European family needs the Caucasus, and the Caucasian nations need Europe. To be honest, the European Union has no future unless it is linked to the Caucasus in terms of energy, economics, and infrastructure,” Orbán noted.

At the end of the commission session, ten documents were signed between the parties, including the Joint Declaration between Georgia and Hungary.
