Georgia hosts World Tourism Day 2024 under the auspices of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on September 27. This marks the first time the event is held in the country.
The event will open at the Paragraph Hotel in Tbilisi with the welcoming speeches of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization. Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili and Deputy Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili will participate in various activities.
The event attracted high-level delegates from over 40 countries, including tourism ministers, representatives from international organizations, and industry experts who will participate in panel discussions. Hosting World Tourism Day in Georgia will significantly enhance the country’s recognition in the global tourism arena. The international media will cover the event.
The UNWTO has chosen “peace” as the central theme for this year’s celebration. The decision for Georgia to host the event was unanimously endorsed by 38 members of the European Commission of the UNWTO in the spring of 2023.
World Tourism Day has been celebrated annually since 1979 on September 27, commemorating the adoption of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970.
