Georgia hosts global tourism leaders for World Tourism Day celebration

According to the National Tourism Administration, high-ranking officials from 40 countries, including ministers and 300 delegates, have already arrived in Georgia for the World Tourism Day event.

The Minister of Tourism and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan, attending the event, commended Georgia’s successful tourism policies.

“September 27 is a significant day for the tourism industry. This event is organized under the leadership of Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization. We collaborate on numerous projects with the UN World Tourism Organization. The decision to host this event in Georgia is exemplary. I’m delighted to be here.

It’s evident that the Georgian government is investing considerable effort into developing the tourism sector. Such gatherings bring together ministers from various countries, providing an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences and knowledge. Once again, I extend my gratitude to Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili for organizing this remarkable event,” stated the Uzbek Tourism Minister.

Among the distinguished guests is Harris Whitbeck, Director of the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism, who praised the hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Organization event in Georgia.

“This is my first visit to Georgia. While it’s quite a journey from my country to yours, we share many commonalities. Both nations boast ancient histories and are renowned for their cuisine and traditions, making our destinations unique. Both countries are characterized by authenticity, which is precisely what travellers seek. I’m excited to learn from Georgia’s experience and gain insights from the ministers and colleagues gathered here. This event is crucial as we discuss the importance of peace, which is essential for tourism,” Wizbeck remarked.

The event scheduled for September 27, under the auspices of the UN World Tourism Organization, will be inaugurated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, UN World Tourism Organization Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, and Minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed bin Aqil al-Khateeb.

The program will feature discussion panels exploring global trends in tourism development and the significance of peace in fostering industry growth.

The National Tourism Administration emphasized that “hosting the World Tourism Day event in Georgia will substantially enhance the country’s international profile as a tourism destination.”

Since 1979, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) has been celebrating World Tourism Day annually on September 27.
