Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan discussed expanding cooperation along the ‘Middle Corridor’.

A quadrilateral meeting was held in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat between the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov, the Minister of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan, Mammet Akmamedov, the Chairman of the Council of the Uzbek Railways Zufar Narzullayev and the Director General of the Georgian Railways Lasha Abashidze.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of mutual interest, as well as opportunities for expanding cooperation in the railway sector and along one of the main transit routes in the region, the Middle Corridor.

The parties also exchanged views on increasing the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and increasing the volume of cargo transportation on this route. The importance of digitalization of operations for more efficient cargo transportation was noted.

After the quadrilateral meeting, a protocol was signed, which covered such areas as the digitalization and development of freight transportation along the Middle Corridor, as well as the diagnostics of the corridor.
