Geologists inspect Vardzia Cave Monastery territory hit by rockfall
The National Environment Agency’s geologists are examining the area around the Vardzia Cave Monastery complex, which was struck by a rockfall on October 18.
The experts will provide their assessment of the existing situation and recommendations. Following that, the Georgian National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation will develop an action plan.
The rockfall near the entrance of the cave monastery did not cause any damage to the Vardzia Cave Monastery complex, the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation said on October 18. According to the agency, the geological processes occurred outside the museum’s bounds.
