General Prosecutor’s Office asking consent from parliament on Nika Melia’s imprisonment

The Georgian General Prosecutor’s Office is asking consent from the parliament on the imposition of imprisonment to MP Nika Melia.

“Criminal signs under Criminal Code were detected against MP Nikanor Melia,” Prosecutor’s Office said during the briefing today. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Melia is called for questioning on June 26 to present the charges.

Prosecutor’s Office and Central Criminal Police Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) continue probing into facts of organization of group violence regarding the developments on June 20-21 during the protest outside the parliament building at central Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.

At the same time, MIA continues identification of those who were calling for violence, trying to break the police corridor and throwing different items at the parliament and law-enforcers.

Administrative punishment was imposed to 121 persons out of whom 54 remain imprisoned for the time being.
