GD's Mdinaradze: Let's revise relations with U.S. - there should be direct flights, free trade, visa-free travel
Mamuka Mdinaradze, the head of the parliamentary majority, stated on Sunday that “relations with the U.S. should be reviewed – let’s do it this way – there should be direct flights, free trade, and visa-free travel with our friends.”
Mdinaradze stated that “it should also be reviewed where the American taxpayers’ money goes in Georgia.”
“We also call on those American senators who raise this matter; yes, Georgia-US ties should be examined; there should be [visa] free travel between partners and friends; this is the correct attitude; and free trade, which we do not currently have, should be established.
If we are strategic friends, Georgian citizens should be able to freely travel in the United States, with direct flights. Yes, it has to be revised.
We have made our contribution: our heroes died in the struggle for peace, we fought with them, and hundreds of people were maimed or injured. Our mission engagement resulted in significant savings of several billion dollars. We are also doing something,” Mdinaradze stated.
The leader of the parliamentary majority added that Georgia “did its job.” “None of the non-NATO countries has contributed as much to the support of Americans and Europeans as Georgia. We are friends and we demand true friendship from them.”
The joint letter of 14 members of the upper chamber of the US Congress, the Senate, sent to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze reads, “If the [transparency] bill is adopted, we will be forced to encourage a change in the US policy towards Georgia.”
