MP Machavariani: Georgia ready to resume relations with EU, but reciprocal steps are necessary
Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, stated that Georgia is prepared to resume relations with the European Union, but emphasized that reciprocal steps are necessary from the EU.
Machavariani noted that the cancellation of the meeting scheduled for November 21 by the European Union suggests they are not ready to engage in meaningful dialogue.
“I want to remind our society that the November 21 meeting had been planned months in advance, and our delegation was prepared to travel to the European Union to address the accusations made against us with facts and evidence. The EU postponed this meeting for an unclear reason, effectively canceling it. This indicates a lack of readiness to engage with us and have a substantive conversation. Instead, we only hear criticism based on perceptions. If the European Union can change this approach, it would be beneficial for both parties, as Georgia’s unique location means that the EU needs Georgia just as much as Georgia needs the EU,” said Levan Machavariani.
