GD's Machavariani: GD committed to peaceful pre-election environment, opposition activists create artificial tension
Levan Machavariani, head of Kakha Kaladze’s election headquarters, stated that Georgian Dream is doing everything possible to ensure a calm pre-election environment and called on the opposition to act with the same responsibility.
According to him, recent incidents show that opposition activists are deliberately trying to create “artificial tension.” He welcomed the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ decision to launch an investigation into the confrontation on Melikishvili Avenue under an article related to violence or threats of violence during a pre-election campaign event.
“We are following our agenda and working around the clock at the Tbilisi election headquarters. Our goal is to secure victory in the first round. Unfortunately, we saw yesterday how opposition activists interfered with our normal campaign work, shouting outside, throwing objects at our building, and disrupting the process. This is a gross violation of pre-election rules, and the Ministry’s response is very important,” Machavariani said.
He stressed that holding elections in a peaceful environment is in the best interest of both Georgian Dream and the country.
“This is not in the interest of the radical opposition, since they are doomed to defeat. They know their real rating will be exposed on election day, which is why they are trying to provoke unrest,” he added.
Machavariani also urged his teammates and supporters to remain calm despite provocations.
“We are asking everyone not to respond to insults or provocations. It is not easy, but this is our responsibility. Still, there are limits—dignity matters,” he noted.
