As polls are open for municipal runoffs across Georgia, rival mayoral candidates of the ruling Georgian Dream and opposition United National Movement parties turned out at the polling places.

GD’s candidate Kakha Kaladze said he voted for further development and bringing more life into every district, which was Kaladze’s pre-election campaign slogan.

Kaladze called on voters to participate in the runoff elections to make the development “irreversible” for children, grandchildren, Georgia and Tbilisi. He vowed to continue reforms and introduce innovations.

“I very much hope to win. Georgian Dream has big support in all municipalities, and making a choice is easy. We see very well what stands on both sides,” Kakha Kaladze said.

United National Movement (UNM) Tbilisi mayoral candidate Nika Melia said he cast his ballot for diversity, competition and change.

“The shameful Soviet-type single-party rule should end in Georgia, and the door has to open for coalition authority,” Melia said. Melia added that Georgia needs a government that rules based on the opposite but agreed on viewpoints if the country wants to become a full-fledged member of the European family.

Runoff municipal elections are going on in Georgia.
