The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party expressed deep sorrow over the Batumi residential building collapse incident and condoled to the families of victims, their relatives and entire Georgia.
“The gravest tragedy in Batumi touched the whole country,” the GD said in a statement. The party announced that it would suspend all election-political activities till October 12. The ruling party also expressed gratitude to all persons involved in the rescue operation.
Georgian government declared October 11 as Day of Mourning. Part of a five-storey residential building on May 26 Street in Batumi collapsed on October 8. The incident claimed lives of 8 people. Neighbours said the building had a two-storey extension on top.
