Georgian Dream showed the public what a healthy, European-type government could be. It is real that the government serves the people and not the other way around,” GD founder Bidzina Ivanishvili said in an interview with the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

According to Ivanishvili, when he came to politics, society was inexperienced, but people have learned to “elect and control.”

“The society, as well as the Georgian Dream, was inexperienced. I said this as soon as I entered politics. Even though we have a large culture, we did not rule our state for decades, or even centuries. We do not have experience in this. We do not have experience in democratic governance, the risk is big. We saw much trouble and endured danger. We challenged everything possible, including the civil war. There is a proverb that a wise man learns from others’ mistakes, the clever from his own, and the fool never. I think our society has learned from its mistakes.

We inexperiencedly caused all kinds of trouble to the state. We killed the first president, we were ruled by robbers, by a fraternity, then the civil war happened, and this is the basis for the people to learn,” Ivanishvili said.

Speaking to GPB, Bidzina Ivanishvili stated that the Georgian society has learned from its mistakes.

“Finally, we got the biggest test – the United National Movement. It was so violent against its people that I came to politics, we could not do it otherwise. Eight years ago, we stopped moving backward. Some politicians brag they started when the politics started in independent Georgia. They were politicians, but the situation in the country has been deteriorating for 20 years. Georgian Dream stopped this decline. We have a stable, fundamentally better state of affairs in all directions. Now they say, look how much poverty in the country. Understandably, you cannot overcome all problems in five minutes. It takes time.

Georgian Dream showed the society what a healthy, European-type government looks like. It is real that the government serves the people and not the other way around. A team of very talented people serves their people. The topic is closed. If after that, let’s say in theory, people chose an oppressor and decide to have a master, we can do nothing about it. Or why the public should request me to come back. Why should I return if I could not do well? Someone else should fix it.

Some people, who have excessive trust in me, will now stand more vigilantly to watch the situation better, be more active in elections, choose with their minds rather than emotions, and vote for those they like. I think our society has learned to elect and control as well.

Society should not need me if they want someone like me, the whole team is at their service. I should claim to return neither. If I could do anything, I did it. If I did not do it right, I should not come back,” Ivanishvili said.
