Members of the Georgian Dream and opposition parties clashed during the Batumi City Assembly meeting. The conflict followed statements of the For Georgia and Lelo party members.
Lelo member Vazha Darchia said his family members and parents were intimidated and blackmailed by phone calls.
“I demand reaction and solidarity from my colleagues when my family members and parents are called at 3 a.m., insulted and threatened, demanding their children not to participate in the rallies. What does it mean? The government should investigate this and tell us who stands behind such behaviour,” he said.
The GD members voiced similar accusations, saying their colleagues in the parliament were attacked, blaming the opposition for standing behind those attacks and demanding an investigation.
“Of course, aggression should be condemned. All facts should be investigated. Relevant bodies are probing, and everything will be called its name. I am sure the inciters of these acts contribute to stirring up polarization and division,” said GD member Natalia Zoidze.
The meeting continues amid counter-accusations.
