GD MP: We need to override presidential veto so that NBG can function
Giorgi Kakhiani, a parliamentary majority member, believes that the country’s institutions should function properly.
According to him, to avoid a challenge to the functioning of the National Bank (NBG), the ruling team will override the President’s veto of the National Bank bill.
“The most essential thing for us was that the institutions were functioning properly. In this case, the matter concerns the appropriate operation of the National Bank. We had an agreement with the President on the exact steps that would be taken. Regrettably, the President has stated that she will not do so. As a result, to avoid any disruptions to the National Bank’s operations, we decided to override the President’s veto. All of this could be done not by overriding the president’s veto but by a simple agreement between the president and the majority because, in a normal situation, institutions should work with mutual understanding. Since it did not happen from the president’s side, we will be forced to override the President’s veto,” Giorgi Kakhiani stated.
