GD MP Okhanashvili: Engagement of foreign citizen in canvassing to be a threat

“Given the geopolitical situation and the occupation, it is crucial for Georgia that a foreign citizen does not engage in canvassing before the elections in our country, as this causes many problems and poses a threat,” said Anri Okhanashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee

According to Okhanashvili, the present sanction that forbids campaigning is not enough, and NGOs believe this issue should be better administered.

“GYLA concluded in 2018 that the current sanction is not enough, so we have initiated a bill. There still are remarks, but we can improve this draft in case of a more proportionate sanction,” Okhanashvili said.
