GD Chair urges differentiating between argument-based and biased criticism
Ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili is not a political prisoner, said Irakli Kobakhidze, Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.
According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the court convicted the ex-President for two specific accusations. One is pardoning the murderers of Sandro Girgvliani (a 28-year-old senior bank employee found dead on the outskirts of Tbilisi in 2006), the crime that, in his words, is “confirmed by the Strasbourg Court,” and the other is the torture of Valeri Gelashvili (MP and a businessman) that is “also verified.”
The GD Chair went on to say that Mikheil Saakashvili is accused of illegal border crossing and embezzlement of budgetary funds.
Irakli Kobakhidze urged everyone to make a difference between argument-based and biased criticism.
“Wherever is objective criticism, we will share it, and wherever biased criticism, we will respond,” he stated.
