GD Chair says so-called Foreign Agents bill served three main purposes

The Transparency of Foreign Influence bill served different purposes, among them is the recognition that being an agent is disgraceful, said Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.

“First, being an agent is disgraceful, whoever agent a person may be.
Second, the organizations that are involved in anti-state activities such as demanding the resignation of the government from a stage, declaring unforged elections as forged, falsifying PVT results, insulting the church, LGBT propaganda, and plotting provocations, are foreign agents.

Third, the so-called Bakuriani scenario will always fail, which means that the United National Movement will never come to power with the assistance of NGOs. These are the three important messages that this bill has brought,” Kobakhidze said.

The GD Chair thanked the initiators and each MP, who backed the bill in the first reading. He added that the Georgian Dream acted based on responsibility.

With the vote held on March 10, the Georgian parliament officially withdrew the People’s Power-tabled Transparency of Foreign Influence bill.
